Patricia Hagen:
Organist & Director of Music Ministry

Patricia Hagen is St. Paul's Organist and Director of Music Ministry. In addition to those duties she also directs the Friends of The Lord (grades 3 - 6) and the New Creations Singers (grades 7 - 12). Mrs. Hagen also serves as accompanist for the Chancel Choir and consultant to St. Paul's Worship Board. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Iowa where she also took graduate work and did additional studies at Drake University. Mrs. Hagen taught public school vocal music (grades 5 - 12) for three years at Vinton, Iowa and one year fifth grade general classroom in Dysart, Iowa. After moving to Waverly she established a long-standing private studio for voice and piano and served as and adjunct piano and voice teacher at Wartburg College various years. In her third year of teaching in Vinton she had the maximum number of students allowed from one school (28) selraected for the Iowa All State Chorus. In 1996 she was a co-recipient, along with husband Alan, of a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding contributions to Choral Music Education from Dr. Paul Torkelson of Wartburg College and Dr. Weston Noble of Luther College. Also in 1999, Mrs. Hagen had an unprecedented triumph at the Dorian Music Festival At Luther College with three out of five soloists selected from over 600 auditions to perform on the festival concert.

Alan Hagen

Alan Hagen is the director of St. Paul's Chancel Choir and Bells of Praise. He holds a BA from Luther College and an MA from the University of Northern Iowa. He taught K - 12 vocal music in Dysart Iowa for 4 years followed by 34 years at Waverly-Shell Rock. Career Highlights include the 1985 W-SR Chamber Choir being the first choir from North America to win the Prize of Vienna at the 14th International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna as the best choral ensemble in the entire competition. In 1995 he was the recipient of the Robert McGowen award from the Iowa Choral Directors Association for outstanding contributions to choral music in Iowa. In 1996 he and wife Patricia were presented a certificate of appreciation from Dr. Paul Torkelson of Wartburg College and Dr. Weston Noble of Luther College for outstanding contributions to Choral Music Education. In 2005 Mr. Hagen was the recipient of the Weston H. Noble Award from Luther College for outstanding achievement in the field of vocal music. In the spring semester of 2007, Mr. Hagen conducted the Wartburg Choir and Ritterchor and took the Wartburg Choir on tour while Dr. Paul Torkelson was on sabbatical.

Audra Cherry

Audra Cherry graduated from Wartburg College with degrees in music education and music therapy. After completing a music therapy internship in Cleveland, Ohio, she taught elementary music at Seton Catholic School in Ottumwa, Iowa. Mrs. Cherry moved to Waverly with her family in 1997 and worked for Wartburg College, supervising music therapy clinical practicums, and for West Music in Cedar Falls, providing music therapy services to a variety of individuals and facilities.

Mrs. Cherry has been teaching music at St. Paul's School since the 2000-2001 school year. She works with the extended day preschool class and the kindergarten through sixth grade classes for general music, and directs the school choir and the sixth grade handbell choirs. She also prepares for the school-led Advent worship, held the first week of December, and the school musical, performed the first week of May.

Mrs. Cherry lives in Waverly with her husband, three children, and various pets.

Heidi Harms

Heidi Harms directs St. Paul's Cherub choir and provides musical leadership for the weekly Sunday School classes and the Sunday School Christmas Program. She works as a nurse in the Emergency Department at Allen Hospital in Waterloo as well as Waverly Health Center. Heidi has three children: Hannah, Lulitte, and John.
