Ministries at St. Paul's
Family and Youth Ministry
St. Paul's Lutheran Church offers a variety of programs to help families and young people grow in faith, community, and service. The best place to hear about all that is going on in our congregation is at the Sunday morning worship services, or join the Jr. and Sr. High Youth Wednesday evenings. For more information about these and other events contact Paul Frantsen, Director of Family and Youth Ministry. All are welcome.
Music Ministry
Currently, approximately 150 musicians of all ages share their talents in a primary role of service to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Their participation enhances our worship services, special services and events. We offer choirs for children through adults, a handbell choir, and seasonal instrumental ensembles. Members also offer vocal and instrumental solos and lead worship as Assisting Ministers, Worship Assistants, or in the Worship Team. Every spring we round out our music program with our "Annual Talent Showcase & Dessert. Event" Please explore our program and indicate your interests. Contact Patricia Hagen, Organist & Director of Music Ministry. All are welcome!
Holy Family
Holy Family is an inner-city ministry in Chicago founded in 1965. St. Paul's has had strong ties to the ministry since its inception, hosting guests from Holy Family and supporting its mission.
In 1989 Holy Family began a community effort to rehabilitate the apartments at Cabrini Green, a Chicago Housing Administration project that housed 26,000 people. Now, Holy Family's ministry focuses on after school programs for the children of the community and building bridges through “Artirum Village” in its vision of a community where people of all races and economic status come together.
Saints' Café
The Saints' Café is a monthly community meal for those in the waverly area who would benefit from a free meal and fellowship. It is served in St. Paul's Parish Hall the last Monday of each month from 5:00-6:30pm. Look in the announcements or call the church office for details.
Fair Trade Products
Fair Trade is an alternative way of doing business—one that builds equitable, tong-term partnerships between consumers in North America and producers in developing nations. The program supports disadvantaged farmers and artisans in developing countries all over the world. The income they earn through selling their products allows them to feed, clothe, shelter, educate and provide health care to their families.
Fair trade products are available every Sunday morning in the Parish Hall. Prices are listed below.
Women's Groups
Intercessory Prayer Ministry
St Paul's Intercessory Prayer Ministry is composed of lay members who, on a weekly basis, offer prayers on behalf of others. Prayer requests are collected each Sunday following services and are prayed for daily by one or more of the Intercessory Prayer Ministers. Each prayer minister commits to spending a minimum of 1/2 hour each week in the sanctuary praying for the prayer requests that have been submitted.
American Church in Berlin
Pastor Ben and Margit Coltvet are supported in our budget and by the February missionary support envelopes. They serve an English-speaking congregation in Berlin in the midst of a mostly Muslim neighborhood.
"We believe that the mission we are involved with is life changing for people through the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
