Music Ministry Program
St. Paul's Music Ministry welcomes musicians of all ages and backgrounds to express their faith and praise God through music. From the beauty of congregational song to traditional choir anthems or more contemporary styles, we celebrate the diversity of God's gifts in our congregation.
"I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being."
--Psalm 146
Martin Luther praised the beauty of music and its unique ability to transform the soul. Serving Christ through music gives a powerful way both to reach deep within our souls and to share this gift with those around us.
As stewards of God's gift of music, we recognize the importance of rehearsal and training for all ages, and encourage the participation of children and youth in the music ministry. Through their participation, students grow skill, knowledge, and faith, enhancing the learning process both in the church and in the wider community.
We invite everyone to participate in our music ministry. Explore the information about our program and fill out the participation form.
From the pastoral staff
"Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the worlds," wrote Martin Luther. Luther was right. It might be words or a chord from a children's choir, or the soft prelude that opens our hearts for Word and Sacrament. Music is a precious gift of God.
St. Paul's is truly blessed by a variety of music groups; Cherub Choir, Friends of the Lord, New Creation Singers, Bells of Praise, Chancel Choir, School Vocal Choir, School Bel Choir and other small groups, instrumentalists and soloists--and even the St. Paul's Orchestra during Advent. Music ministry provides a place where scores of children, youth and adults serve, bringing joy to themselves and others--for example, 150 children and adults were involved in the 2008 Christmas-Advent festival. None of this could unfold without the commitment of choir members and strong support from parents.
At St. Paul's, we share Luther's enthusiastic attitude toward music:
I , Doctor Martin Luther, wish all lovers of the unshackled art of music grace and peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ! I truly desire that all Christians would love and regard as worthy the lovely gift of music, which is a precious, worthy, and costly treasure given to mankind by God.
The riches of music are so excellent and so precious that words fail me whenever I attempt to discuss and describe them… In summa, nest to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, heats, and spirits…
Our dear fathers and prophets did not desire without reason that music be always used in the churches. Hence, we have so many songs and psalms.
--Martin Luther
Have you considered being a part of the exciting music ministry at St. Paul's? Sharing talent is sharing the "worthy and costly treasure given" that God has given you to bless others. Each choir develops as a supportive community, where new persons are welcomed and warmly included.
