Drama and Devos

This year St. Paul’s junior high youth met together on Sunday mornings in the junior high youth room for "Drama & Devos." The group was led by Christine Anderson who channeled the kids energy into some creative and useful dramas that were presented in church.  Each Sunday the youth enjoyed an hour of fun and fellowship, that included devotions, snacks, and fun dramas that made good use of our stash of puppets and stuffed animals.

At the beginning of the school year, the group looked ahead to the weekly Sunday gospel texts, and chose a few to fashion into puppet dramas. Paul wrote the first draft of each script, which was then thrown to the lions (youth) for approval. With some tweeks to the lines and action, a final drama text was settled on, and then practiced for a few weeks. There were lines to learn, props to make, and especially treats to eat! Silliness, laughter, and tiny puppet voices made for a fun Sunday school hour. Then the youth presented their puppet shows for the children's message in church to the delight of the wee ones in church.

This year's Drama and Devos puppet shows included...

Be Ready! - Matthew 13:1-37
About Jesus' story of a tipsy tower that came tumbling down! (three times!)
Wake Up Fuzzy - Matthew 25:1-13
About a wild puppet party and sleepy little "Fuzzy" who slept through it all. Wake up Fuzzy!
Pizza Head - Mark 1:40-45
Hopefully we'll all remember "Pizza Head" and the reminder that pizza and puppet fur don't mix!
Doubting Thomas - John 20:19-31
About one serious doubter, faithful friends, and some confetti rain.

Drama and Devos has been a good way to tap into the jr high youths' energy and creativity.  And everyone loves to see them active in sharing their faith with the worshipping community at church.  Look for more of their dramas and puppet skits at church in the months to come!
