St. Paul's Winter Fest

The mountains of snow in the church parking lot were put to good use last weekend at St. Paul’s Winter Fest event.  Our first attempt at an awesome sledding run started about half-way up one of the mountains, complete with a winding stair to get there.  But as more adventurous snow lovers showed up, it became clear that we needed a higher, faster run from the very top.  We made a pretty awesome run, then a second one from the very top of the mountain.  Proof of their “awesomeness” came from the kids’ screams of terror and delight as they shot down the hill and out across the snow.  Some kids explored the rest of the snowy mountain tops, while others found a ten foot drop off that dumped thrill seekers into a fluffy pile of snow.

After an hour of playtime, everyone headed inside to warm up.  Hot cocoa was the drink of the day, and we made plenty of it, hot and chocolaty, to everyone’s delight.  Kids and families gathered to sing and jump around to “Kids of the Kingdom.”  Then families made acrostics using the names of all their family members, including some pets and a fish named “Bob”.  We intersected our names with that of Jesus Christ, and talked about including Jesus in the daily faith of our family life.  After some good conversation, some wacky upside-down photos, more hot cocoa, and warm fellowship, it was time to head for home and dry out all the wet snow pants, hats, and gloves.  For a few diehard sledding fans, however, it was time to head back outside for a few more screaming runs down the sledding hill.

As more snowflakes fell from the sky, we all headed for home, with some good memories of an awesome day on the mountains in St. Paul’s church parking lot.  See you all next year!
