6th Grade Confirmation Year 2010-2011Dr.-JeanSchneider.jpg
Dr. Jean Schneider

Sixth Grade subject:  The New Testament.  We will concentrate on the story of Jesus, his miracles and healing and story telling.  Jesus encountered people just like us.  God encountered them and they learned to love and depend on God.  Out of love for God, they learned to care for their neighbors.  One of our most important objectives is to encourage prayer.  God is real.  God is living.  We don't just want to teach about God.  We want to know this God personally who made us children in baptism.

Schedule:  Parents and students may come for supper. Worship is at 6, class is 6:15 to 7:10.  We have 11 classes in the fall, 9 in the spring, and 3 on the retreat.

Acolyte: An acolyte schedule for 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 (summer, 11:00) services will be distributed in November.  Families also receive a reminder card.  Students should be in the sacristy ten minutes before the service.  If the student cannot acolyte, others are usually willing to trade.

Notebook: Students need a  three-ring binders. A short Bible study needs to be completed at home each week. Students do the homework, and then we work through the material in class and apply it.  They will get Bible studies and class worksheets in 5 week packets.  Students need to bring Bibles to each class.

Mentors: Each student should have a mentor.  Pastor Sandberg will train new mentors.  Mentors meet with students twice in the fall and during Lent.  Make sure the the mentors hand their reports in.

Communication:  Contact me at my email: jean.schneider@uni.edu.  My home phone is 352-4840 and my office phone is 273-3274.  You are welcome to visit me in my office at 606 Schindler Education Center at UNI. (Call first.)

Confirmation Retreat: One of the year's highlights is the retreat at EWALU. This year's retreat will be on Sunday and Monday, January 16-17. We want to avoid night driving, so the retreat will be on Sunday afternoon through early Monday afternoon. The cost is $10.00.

Worship Notes: Eighteen are required this year. Students use the BLUE worship notes.  The sixth grade is also

Service Projects: Do four during the upcoming year, at least two in fall and two in spring.Check with Paul Frantsen on the types of service projects available.

Supper Help: Confirmation students and families benefit from the weekly suppers. Parents need to sign up to work once during the upcoming confirmation year.  There's a schedule at the confirmation fair.

Science and Skit: Each week we have a brief science, learning in motion project, or skit to illustrate a lesson from the New Testament. Parents are involved in these and make them more fun and memorable.

Bad Weather: If school is let out for the day because of bad weather or let out early for bad weather, confirmation is cancelled. Information about cancellations will be on KWWL, KWAY and the church website.
