Confirmation Year 2010-2011 schneider.jpg
Pastor Schneider

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob encountered people just like us. God encountered them and they learned to love and depend on God. Out of love for God, they learned to care for their neighbors. One of our most important objectives is to encourage prayer and service. God is real. God is living. We don't just want to teach and learn about God. We want to know this God personally who made us children in baptism.

Acolyte: Students have already had a year if acolyting at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 (summer, 11:00) services. Students should be in the sacristy ten minutes before the service. If the student cannot acolyte, others are usually willing to trade.

Baptism Sponsors for a Month: Mid-October students will receive a baptism packet to work on at home. Parents can assist by finding baptism certificates, pictures, names and current addresses of sponsors. Then Advent, students meet with the family of a newly baptized child and become 'sponsors for a month.' Reports of visits are due on January 6. (Click here for baptism sponsorship asignments)

Notebook: Students use their three-ring binders from last year. A short Bible study needs to be completed at home each week. Students need to bring Bibles to each class.

Mentors: Call your mentor and ask if he or she will be your mentor again this year. Mentoring times are two times in the fall and Lenten worship in the spring. Mentors hand their reports to the pastor. New mentors need to take mentor training. We found it works better if parents select mentors. They should be active church members.

Confirmation Retreat: One of each year's highlights is the retreat at EWALU. This year's retreat will be on Sunday and Monday, January 16-17. We want to avoid night driving, so the retreat will be on Sunday afternoon through early Monday afternoon. The cost is $10.00.

Worship Notes: Twenty-four are required this year. The seventh grade is also required to attend five of the six services during Holy Week. These five services count for the twenty-four as do the Lenten services. Mark your schedules now for Holy Week worship: April 17-April 24. Seventh grader students and parents do the Easter Vigil service as a service project. (How to fill out Worship Notes.)

Service Projects: Do four during the upcoming year, at least two in fall and two in spring.

Supper Help: Confirmation students and families benefit from the weekly suppers. Parents need to sign up to work or donate food for the upcoming confirmation year.

Science and Skit: Each week we have a brief science or learning in motion project or skit to illustrate a lesson from the Old Testament. It adds variety to the class if parents can come to class and help with the science/motion or skit projects.

Bad Weather: If school is let out for the day because of bad weather or let out early for bad weather, confirmation is cancelled. Information about cancellations will be on KWWL, KWAY and the church website.
